Swan Lake

Swans and ducks are usually migratory birds, meaning they migrate to warmer parts of the world when winter comes, driven primarily by availability of food.

These, however, decided to stay here on lake Jarun, Zagreb.

This began few years ago (maybe even a decade or so, if I allow myself to think that that much time already passed) when just few of the swans stayed.

They survived thanks to the people who fed them.

Next year a few more stayed, and the trend continued...

Now there are so many of them that they keep a small part of the lake from freezing, using the ice around as a platform for resting, feeding and sliding.
